When I ended my career in the communications industry, I was pretty sure I'd never have to work in Philly again....I was wrong! Here at Griff's we've been extremely busy lately so for a change of pace I helped out one of my commercial clients installing various vinyl wraps and advertisements around the Philadelphia Parking Authority Transportation Center on Filbert St. It made for a long day but was a fun trip.

This past week was very busy which is a good thing. We installed a new storm door, assembled some furniture, completed some drywall repairs and painted a bathroom where we previously installed a new shower, installed some benches for one of our commercial clients, did several estimates, and spent time buying materials and prepping for several upcoming jobs. Oh, and was locked out of the service van without my tools for a day and a half. 🤣

Here’s another tub to shower conversion finished up this week. Our customer wanted to make showering easier as they aged so we installed a shower seat and grab bars. This is a Flexstone acrylic shower panel system. These are a great affordable option compared to tile or marble. They are easy to clean and maintain and they look good too compared to a one piece shower surround.

Last week I helped out a client by rehabbing their bathroom caused by excessive moisture. This week I helped them out by getting their venting issues taken care of. I don’t understand why builders continue to vent bathroom fans into the soffit. It’s probably because it’s cheap and no one will notice for a while. I have seen this many times including at my own house. The issue is that warm humid air never really makes it out of the soffit unlesss a proper vent is installed. When the vent lays on top the soffit and then the soffit gets filled with blown in insulation it creates the perfect bed for mold to grow. The sad thing is my client had noticed the mold issue some time ago and paid a lot of money to a mold remediation company to come out and clean the mold in the attic and “remediate” the situation. Problem is they did nothing to solve the problem. Anyway I installed a soffit vent that gets that humid air all the way to the outside and then treated the mold again that had already started growing.

It was a busy week doing a small bathroom refresh project. Due to a venting issue with the bathroom fan our customer had some moisture issues causing their drywall tape to fail in many areas of the bathroom. We cut out most of the old tape and repaired it as well as a new paint job. And we are also addressing the fan issue as well and getting it vented correctly to the outside.
