Let’s talk about stockpile management, something that often gets overlooked or is not done properly. Not only are perimeter control BMPs necessary around stockpiles, they also need to be covered (erosion control). Perimeter control BMPs only help contain sediment AFTER stockpiles have been eroded. They do nothing to protect stockpiles from eroding away. Money doesn’t grow on trees so make sure you are spending your money where it counts. Let BEI help with all your NPDES compliance needs!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Just like us, BMPs need some 💕 and TLC. After all, what is life without ♥️? So make it Valentine’s Day at least once a week. Show your BMPs 💜! Not sure what you are looking at in these photos? It’s a bioretention BMP that hasn’t received any love since it was constructed. Don’t throw money down the drain. Keep your BMPs up to date. Have BMPs at your site? Let us help you keep them working.

As we finally dry out from the onslaught of recent storms, most of us would agree on the importance of implementing both erosion and sediment control BMPs on a project (there are always those who like to think otherwise). Something that is often overlooked when employing erosion control is site preparation. Things like slope length, run-on from upstream areas and proper compaction (amongst a list of other things) need to be addressed. Can you guess the missing site preparation step in each of the photos? Do it right and do it once. Let us help with your BMP needs!

Most of us know about the requirement to stabilize and protect non-active, soil-disturbed construction areas on a project (14 day rule), but what exactly are the requirements for active construction areas within a site? The requirement is that prior to a storm event, active construction sites must employ an effective combination of erosion and sediment controls. This means that even if you don’t have a sediment discharge offsite, but only employ sediment control BMPs, you are still a non-compliant site! So let BEI make sure your project is compliant and ready for any type of weather!

To an untrained eye, a hurried inspector, or one who needs visual aid, these mat installs may seem fine. However, upon closer look, it is evident that this install is not to specifications of the manufacturer or the governing agency. Always have inspections done by well qualified professionals who take time to make sure your site is compliant. We have quite a few to choose from and even though they are out in the field all day, they still smell good. Contact us to keep your site in compliance, to get your site into compliance, or for any storm water question you may have. We are always here to help!

Sometimes we see things that just don’t make sense even though it’s not in our expertise. I’m sure someone somewhere has a really good explanation for this install. Let us help with your BMP designs and installs and we will make sure that we have you and your site protected with installs that not only make sense, but are also compliant.

With just a little over 1.5 months of summer left, it’s a great time to start planning your site’s BMPs heading into the fall and winter months. Doing so would ensure that you are somewhat ahead of the “supply chain” issue we all hear about. Just the other day, the chicken sandwich I ordered took over 45 minutes! When I received my order I refused it. My daughter was visibly upset because she worked so hard to make it 😂. Contact us to let us not only help plan your upcoming BMP needs, but also provide you with recommendations, great service and compliant installations. What we do is not rocket science, but we still take pride in ensuring it’s done correctly. Photos are NOT of installs by our experienced staff…they are installs done by rocket scientists.

Aloha! We are finally back from sabbatical. 😜 Just wanted to remind everyone that disturbed areas need to be protected after 14 days of inactivity, regardless of what season we are in. Although this site does have a decent stockpile of wattles, there is just not enough time to get the site into compliance if a rain event is predicted. Let BEI make sure your site is “covered” and ready for any type of weather!

Happy Friday! Just wanted to remind everyone to always show your BMPs some ❤️. Pretty them up, trench them in, make them nice and tidy. Just like people, looking good and feeling good make BMPs perform better 😜. Here we have a row of silt fence that has not been maintained. Although there are back of curb wattles downstream to minimize sediment discharge, the SWPPP requires that all installed BMPs maintained. In this case, photo-degradation is causing the silt fence to fall apart. So now it can be written up as a maintenance issue or a trash issue. Don’t let this be your site!
