I previously scheduled a meeting at Perry Park for this evening at 6 p.m. while mulling over it while I slept, I came to the conclusion that only a crazy person would attend an outside meeting when the temperatures are expected to be around 98 degrees! I am not a genius, but I am a Weiss mann, so I decided to postpone the meeting until Saturday, October 18. I will go to the park tonight at 6 to apologize to anyone who didn’t who didn’t receive this message. Also, I wanted to warn everyone to check their mailboxes soon after delivery or at least every day, as I encountered a mailbox on Brown Road that had been broken into. It’s sad that we must be so vigilant but there are thieves that move around Perry Ranch looking for opportunities to steal whatever they can.

Back in 2018 I created Perry Ranch Partnership as part of a campaign to save our underfunded Perry Park from going to ruin. We successfully lobbied our neighborhood and in 2019 we established a funding overlay to restore sufficient watering and maintenance to bring the park and the surrounding streetscapes on Calvine and Waterman Roads back from looking horrible to looking decent. We got new picnic tables, benches and trash cans to replace the rusted out ones, and added a couple barbecue pits and a dog waste station, all modest improvements. My mission was accomplished and I stopped posting.

Well, nothing lasts forever, including Perry Park, which was established in 1997 and looks and feels dated. The playground has had its share of vandalism and graffiti, which has been remedied by CSD, but hacks and cuts into the structures are visible. When I asked CSD for a timeline to revitalize the park, I was told that design work would begin in late 2027, construction would begin in 2028 and the revitalization would be complete in 2030.

2027 seems a long way off, but if the neighborhood wants to have any input on what the park should look like we need to get organized. I will hold a meeting at Perry Park on Wednesday, August 20 at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to see who might be interested in participating. If you plan to attend, let me know.
