I began making flutes at the age of 18 for the Emerson Musical Instrument Co. in 1994 after being offered a job by my grandfather Emerson Deford. And was soon padding his Bass, Alto, Bb, Eb, Treble G And Legacy flutes, as well as all custom and specialty made flutes. I also worked closley with Emerson on all aspects of flutemaking and head joint making. When Emerson sold the Co. to Selmer, I was o

ffered a position with them and padded the same flutes and piccolos, although they discontinued the Bb and Eb flute. I then was offered a job by the Wm. where I helped in the design and protyping of the Amadeus flute as well as its manufacture during the time it was produced in the USA. While there I refined my skills and still do their factory overhauls and piccolos today. When the Amadeus plant closed I briefly joined Gemeinhardt where I worked in testing and repair department, and worked stringing the Roy Seaman Piccolo's as well as all other model piccolos. In 2009 I started a repair and restoration business and have been doing that full time since then. I have continued to work closley with my grandfather over the years and approached him about a Bb and Eb flute early in 2013. We took his original samples and recreated the Bb and Eb flutes.

Here is an rare piece of Gemeinhardt history. A Factory made M3 with a Low Bb foot and sterling silver head. Has original custom made case as well. I acquired this flute several years back when I was still working for Gemeinhardt. I was told at that time that they made only a few of these. This is the only one I’ve ever seen. It has some plating ware and some other cosmetic issues but has been overhauled and is playing well. It will be going up for sale soon. if interested PM me. Thanks

1- Haynes handmade 1965, soldered tone holes, open hole, inline G, C foot. Flute has been overhauled and is in excellent condition. $3500

2- Haynes handmade 1960, soldered tone holes, open hole, inline G, C foot. Comes with Drelinger Max headjoint with platinum air reed. Flute has been overhauled and is in excellent condition.

3- Haynes handmade 1970, soldered tone holes, open hole, inline G, C foot. Flute is in very good condition flute plays but is in need of a good COA

7-Gemeinhardt M2s solid silver tubing throughout, closed hole, offset G, c foot. Flute has been overhauled and is in excellent condition. $400

I have several Wm. S Haynes Flutes and piccolos and several Gemeinhardt flutes and piccolos that will be going up for sale soon. Some are overhauled and ready to go and some are in need of service. I am saddened to post that my Grandfather Emerson DeFord has passed away. He was active and still helping me in my shop till about a year ago. He was my mentor in flute making and in general. He will be greatly missed. Emerson was 93.
