HARP homes renderings

The project included 11 core prototypes: Thirty exterior views of three styles (Craftsman, Contemporary, and Farmhouse), five plan view schemes, and ten interiors views.

The Homeowner Assistance and Reconstruction Program (HARP) is a statewide housing initiative created by the Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) as part of the ReOregon disaster recovery program. Developed in response to the devastating 2020 wildfires, the project provides families with access to thoughtfully designed, single-family homes as they rebuild their lives.

Continuing our coastal placemaking journey with the team at DLA Landscape Architects - this time in Newport, Oregon’s South Beach District. We developed these concept boards several months ago to present early ideas to the city and community for the district’s North and South gateway features, alongside integrated wayfinding strategies. These initial visions - further developed - are now nearly complete. DLA has submitted construction bid documents for the SE Ferry Slip Road corridor, and I’m currently drafting the Rough Placemaking Guide—a document designed to shape the district’s identity through public art and wayfinding.

Recently completed conceptual renderings of the Agate Street Play Area design

University of Oregon & LandCurrent / Landscape Architecture

The Agate Street Play Area, located near 19th Avenue and Agate Street in Eugene’s East Campus neighborhood, has long been a focal point for community interest and improvement. In 2024, the University of Oregon Landscape Architecture students explored potential enhancements to the park space. In parallel, Eugene Parks and Open Spaces conducted a survey in 2023 to gather community input on park renovation priorities. When surveyed about amenities that should be upgraded or added, community members prioritized new trees and plantings, improved playground equipment, additional seating, nature play elements, a covered shelter, and design strategies to discourage illicit activity.

The aerial perspective shows birds in the background circling the Agate Hall chimney - a popular roosting site of the Vaux's Swift during their migration. It's celebrated with a swift motif at the top of the grass berm.

This is my first attempt at transforming a sketch into a realistic render using AI, with minimal edits. Originally shared in 2023, this design concept, titled "Low Impact Hillside Community,” explores a sustainable development in the Southeast hills of Eugene, OR. It would have been incredible to see this development come to life, but unfortunately, it stalled and never progressed further than an early conceptual stage.

In previous posts, I shared digital paintings that sparked the idea to explore just how far technology has advanced over the years.

This Friday’s flashback takes a look at the evolution of digital mural art and production, comparing two works—one from 1997 and another from 2011.

The first mural, created for Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers, was installed in Medford, Bend, and Portland with modifications for each store. The production files combined vector and bitmap images, and the large-format printing was done on Sintra panels (PVC). The Portland store, pictured here, was designed in collaboration with Studio-e Architecture in 2011.

The second mural dates back to 1997, one of my earliest digital paintings using a Wacom tablet and Fractal Design Painter 4 software. For the large-format printing, an airbrush nozzle was used, and the final piece was hung like wall covering. This particular example, installed at Gelson’s Market in Northridge, reflects the entertainment-driven retail trends of the 1990s, when consumer focus was shifting from simply buying products to seeking immersive experiences.

Although Atlas opened in late January, I’ve refrained from sharing the completed space until the proper chairs arrived, as a significant delay from the supplier left us waiting. The grey plastic temporary chairs confirmed just how well the selected chairs enhance the overall design. The first image, featuring the overhead door raised, was graciously ‘borrowed’ from an Atlas thread—I trust they won’t mind. Expect higher quality photos in the coming weeks!

Atlas is a fast- casual Mediterranean restaurant that offers customizable dishes.
