This photo is exactly why I tell homeowners not to choose a painter based solely on price.
I actually encourage people to get multiple estimates. You should. Your home is a major investment, and you deserve to find a contractor you’re comfortable with. But when you’re comparing estimates, don’t just ask, “What’s the price?” Ask what products they’re using. Ask what their prep process looks like. Ask what kind of warranty they offer. Ask for references. Check their Google reviews. Find out what happens if there’s a problem after the job is completed.
If one painter is $1,000 or $2,000 cheaper than everyone else, there’s usually a reason. They’re skipping steps, rushing the preparation, or using lower quality materials. Exterior painting isn’t just putting paint on a house. It’s soft washing, scraping failing paint, sanding rough edges, priming exposed areas, caulking gaps, and applying premium coatings correctly. That’s what makes a paint job last.
Wisconsin weather is brutal on exterior paint. Between snow, ice, moisture, and summer sun, shortcuts get exposed quickly. A properly prepared and painted home should last well over a decade, especially when it’s maintained and soft washed every year or two. When corners are cut, you end up with situations like this where the paint starts failing long before it should.
At Summers Painting, we’re not the cheapest company in town, and we’re not trying to be. Our prices reflect the time, preparation, and materials required to do the job correctly. At the same time, we’re not a giant company with layers of managers and salespeople that all need to get paid. It’s a small team and me making sure every project is completed the right way.
Try to find a bad review online about us. Not because we’re perfect. Mistakes can happen on any job. The difference is that when something isn’t right, we take care of it. We don’t walk away and we don’t make excuses. We keep working until the customer is happy and the job is finished the way it should be.
Your home is an investment. Make sure you’re hiring someone who’s treating it like one.
Prep. Paint. Perfect.
