Please commit to removing this tree. Evansville is loaded with ornamental pears. And if you can't find it possible to remove these trees for sure don't plant any new ones.

In the 60s, America fell in love with a new tree: the Bradford pear or Callery pear. It had a cute gumdrop shape, bloomed white in the spring, and turned deep purple in the fall. Not a happy ending though...

These trees split and break in only about 15 years because of their weak structure (gumdrop is not so cute anymore), those pretty blooms emit a dead fish smell all spring, and they cross pollinate with other pear species making fruit bearing species sterile. Birds will eat the tiny fruit and spread the seeds, causing fields to be overrun with this tree in a short amount of time.

You can help by not using this species and/or removing them from you landscaping.
