While I am no longer tiling, I'm still in the remodeling industry as a Project Consultant with Design Pro Remodeling! We work on anything from small backsplashes to full home remodels and additions. Many of you know I experienced health complications resulting from the physical demands of tile work. After having extensive surgery in December, I’ve had to decide between my business and a long term active lifestyle. With great difficulty and the strong advice from medical professionals, the best way forward for my family and I is to close the business and move on.
I’ve loved working in your homes, meeting your wonderful families, and helping you create an environment you love to be in. This venture has been incredibly fulfilling and pushed me to learn and grow in ways I would not have otherwise. Thank you for putting your trust in me and believing in my vision!
I highly recommend looking for a Certified Tile Installer for your next installation. I also understand that we don’t have many in our area. For that reason, I will be posting a list of questions to ask potential installers in order to gauge their qualifications.

NOW OFFERING TILE CONSULTATIONS!
DIY home improvement projects have skyrocketed over the last several years. Homeowners are inspired by HGTV and the idea of investing in their homes with their own two hands. Unfortunately, I have had many who call for help midway through the project. In most of these situations the home owners were quite capable, but needed more knowledge and advice than a Google search can provide.
To meet this growing need, I’ve launched a NEW side of my business strictly for consultations.
At an hourly rate, the consultation includes:
- Onsite visit for client's local to Northern Virginia
- Video conferencing as needed throughout the project
- Information and advice on needed preparation
- Recommendations for products to use
- Essential skills for tile installation
- Tips and tricks for a smooth install
- Recommendations for care and maintenance
Why pay for a consultation when you’re doing the work yourself? I am a Certified Tile Installer ( #1599) and a licensed Home Improvement Contractor. I’ve spent the last three years learning everything I can about tile. The methods I use meet or exceed industry expectations and are considered best practices in the professional tile community.
My biggest goal? To further quality installations that are not just pleasing to look at, but will last a lifetime.
I really enjoyed working on this stacked stone feature wall this week. Great client, great design, and the perfect song to accompany it.

These iPhone photos do not do enough to show how impressive my client’s home remodel is. I absolutely love all of her design choices. Thankfully she is going to share photos once everything is complete! This left leaning chevron pattern was individually set. I had intended to take photos throughout the process, but became so absorbed in the layout that it slipped my mind. This was a fun one!

The Beginning
Tile by Rachel was an unexpected discovery. With all three of my children going to school
this Fall, I’ve been looking into what could be ‘next’ in my career, and coming up empty. I wasn’t finding anything that inspired me, at least not anything that was realistic or feasible.
Then our Realtor stopped by. After seeing the tile work in our bathroom and kitchen, she asked if I’d be interested in laying tile professionally. I didn’t think much of it at first, but over the next several days those words were at the forefront of my mind. I do love home improvement projects, and I love tiling. Could I actually do something I enjoy and turn it into a profitable business?.
I began researching and talking with a contractor and friends, all who were extremely supportive. Then I booked a couple jobs, with several more planned. And that brings us to the beginning of an exciting new venture.
