Grow Your Own Tea Organically! Cold Hardy Zone 7
Camellia sinensis plant is one of the hardiest of all the Camellia sinensis
They are processed in different ways to attain different levels of oxidation. You can make both green tea or black tea the difference is in how you dry the leaves. What's most exciting about those leaves, is that you can pick them and make your own tea. You'll have a great conversation–starter with visitors, and the coolest homemade present. Ornamentally, this Camellia is an asset to your landscape as well. It blooms in late fall and winter, white flowers illuminating the sleepy winter landscape.
A few plants will supply you with a lifetime of delicious tea, fresh and as pure as possible! It will grow to a very large shrub if left on its own. To use it for tea production, which uses only the new growth at stem tips, you will want to keep it pruned to about 3 or 4 feet to make it easy to harvest and to keep it producing fresh new stems.
Tea is harvested throughout the growing season; as often as every 10 days. At this rate, a large plant can produce quite a bit of tea。Freshly made tea tastes far superior to any tea you'll find in a market.
The caffeine in the leaves gives the Cold Hardy immunity so that it stands up to pests, diseases and temperature extremes.
The tea plant camellia offers fragrant blooms in a shrub that is a full zone hardier.
it's long-living. Enjoy a lifetime supply of delicious, fresh tea leaves! One tea plant can produce for over 100 years. Just snip off the leaves and dry. Use them fresh or store.
Camellia sinensis Tea Plants grown in containers will do very well for many years.
After flowering, Camellia sinensis produces small, round seed pods. Inside are tea seeds, which can be used for:
🌱 Propagation – Grow new tea plants from seed, especially for establishing a natural or biodiverse tea garden.
🌿 Tea seed oil – The seeds can be cold-pressed to produce camellia oil, a traditional cooking and cosmetic oil in Asia. It’s rich in antioxidants and known for its light, nourishing qualities.
🧴 Natural skincare – Camellia seed oil (often called tsubaki oil in Japan) is valued for moisturizing skin and hair, with a silky, non-greasy feel.
Whether you’re a grower or a tea lover, the tea plant’s fruit is a small but valuable gift — offering beauty, sustainability, and tradition all in one.
Camellia sinensis, the tea plant, isn’t just for brewing — it also makes an excellent ornamental hedge. Its dense, glossy foliage and compact growth habit are ideal for shaping borders or creating natural screens.

Cold-hardy Japanese Musa basjoo banana plant – comes with lots of pups (baby shoots) included!

Musa basjoo – The Hardy Banana of Memory and Home 🍃

With its broad emerald leaves fluttering in the breeze, Japanese Banana (Musa basjoo) brings more than just a tropical touch — it carries a sense of nostalgia, of summers past, and the quiet poetry of simpler days.

In childhood, the banana plant stood tall by the garden wall, shading sunburnt faces and muddy feet. Its leaves rustled like lullabies in the wind, and every new shoot felt like a small miracle. Today, planting one feels like planting a piece of home.

🌿 Why It Captures the Heart:
• Lush, tropical foliage that grows quickly through summer
• Cold-hardy roots — survives winter down to -10°F (-23°C) with mulch protection
• Comes back year after year, even when the top dies back
• Grows up to 10 feet tall, perfect for creating a bold, nostalgic focal point

🌨 Winter Resilience:
While frost may wither its towering stems, the underground rhizome sleeps quietly beneath the soil — just waiting for spring. Like memory, it endures.
(While the top growth may die back in winter, the underground rhizomes survive and send up new shoots each spring, even after snow and frost. Simply mulch the base heavily in late fall for protection. )
'Musa basjoo is more than a plant.
It’s a bridge — between now and then, here and home.
Let the gentle sway of banana leaves bring balance to your space. This plant offers not just beauty, but a calming presence — a quiet companion in your everyday retreat.
