A cleaner-looking palm isn’t necessarily a healthier palm.

Throughout Southwest Florida, we regularly see palms that have been over-pruned, with healthy or partially green fronds removed to create a tighter canopy.

Those fronds still serve a purpose.

Proper palm pruning generally focuses on dead material and legitimate hazards while preserving healthy foliage. Repeatedly stripping palms down can unnecessarily stress the tree and contribute to long-term problems.

When it comes to palms, more pruning doesn’t mean better care.

Myth: If a tree is damaged, it’s best to just leave it alone. It’ll heal itself.

Truth: Trees don’t heal the way people do.
