Pinterest is great for ideas, but your plants have to survive real weather. Midwest climates bring cold winters, heavy soil, and big seasonal swings; which means not every “dream yard” is realistic here. Designing for your region saves money, maintenance, and frustration in the long run. 🌿
If you don’t want yearly upkeep... say that upfront. There is nothing wrong with wanting low-maintenance landscaping — but that means designing for it intentionally. Pretty AND practical is always the goal. 🌾
Good landscaping isn’t cheap... but bad landscaping is expensive. Cutting corners now usually means paying twice later. Design matters. Prep matters. Maintenance matters. And that’s where we come in. 🤗
Solar lights are basically decorative... not functional. They’re cute. They’re affordable.
But in lowa? With trees, clouds, snow, and short winter days? Solar lights just don’t perform. If you actually want your landscaping to shine (and feel safe walking it at night), low-voltage landscape lighting is the way to go. ✨
Mulch is not a “one and done” situation.
I know you wish it was. But it’s not.
Mulch breaks down. It fades. It shifts.
And yes... it needs to be refreshed every year if you want it to look good and actually do its job. No refresh = weeds, thinning beds, and sad landscaping energy.
Let’s do it right the first time. 💪
