Drawdowns, or a paint sample, are a great way to see the color, sheen, and specific product in your space before finalizing your choices.

At Shelby Painting, we strongly recommend painting samples on your walls or using a drawdown to envision and select your paint products!

Stained beams and a white ceiling, asking for bleed through, right?
Not if you use the tape caulking method!

This involves taping a straight line along the beam on the drywall, caulking the gap between the beam and the drywall, and then wiping off excess caulking with a moist rag until you can see the tape fully.
This creates a smooth flat surface which is easier to paint a straight line on.

Pressure washing! Why we always do it, and when not to.
Here at Shelby Painting we spend time on prep, which includes pressure washing (and scraping and priming).
Why? To ensure the new paint sticks to the surface and does it's job!

Dirt, cobwebs, and general debris get in the way of the new paint adhering to the old. Over time, this can lead to premature peeling, blistering, and other issues.
Give your home a well-deserved bath before painting it, but make sure its completely dry before applying that fresh coat of paint!

Of course everything comes with a however, so here is ours.
If your home was built prior to 1978 it may have lead paint and you DO NOT want to pressure wash if the paint appears cracked or peeling as this can spread lead, well, everywhere!
