Meet the Maker: Pauline Greuell

For the first time, Netherlands-based textile artist, pattern designer and teacher Pauline Greuell’s hand-stenciled patterns are being translated for digital textile printing.

Pauline’s work reminds us of the importance of slowing down, connecting to ourselves, and the transformative power of textiles as one of our oldest forms of creative expression.

We are incredibly proud to welcome Pauline to the Sister & Sewn Founding Collection and to work alongside her to preserve the spirit of the original artwork as we bring these patterns to textiles and wallcoverings in exclusive colorways for the U.S. market.

Turning the ordinary into pattern, rhythm and curiosity, with a depth and soul you can feel. That is the work of Nordic Duck.

Some people seem to carry creativity just beneath the surface. Ieva Rudzīte is one of them.

When we first met Ieva, she was warm, open and almost humming with creativity. She shared her excitement, her vulnerability and a glimpse of the life she has created beside a fjord in Norway. It felt less like a formal introduction and more like the beginning of something we would build together.

That same openness lives in her work. Her eye is drawn to nature, animals, historic ornament, church interiors and traditional craftsmanship, which she translates into patterns filled with warmth, history and character.

Between sisters, an entire conversation can pass without a word.

For Sophie Porter and Celia Haynes, that instinctive shorthand sits at the heart of Meredith House. Sophie brings more than two decades of experience across the interiors industry, including her time as Managing Director of Jean Monro.

Celia built a twenty-year international career spanning private family service, fashion, and premium lifestyle before bringing that experience to Meredith House—a studio named in honor of their father, Charles Meredith Hamer, and rooted in their shared history.

Their roles may differ, but the creative conversation is shared. The work takes shape through honest exchange, quiet understanding, and the ease of knowing when to debate an idea, when to work quietly side by side, and when a design is complete.

When we began building Sister & Sewn, we knew we didn’t want to simply introduce collections. We wanted to introduce the people behind them.

Because every textile has a story.

We’re honored to begin our Meet the Makers series with Meredith House—the work of sisters Sophie Porter and Celia Haynes. Their story is one of family, memory, craftsmanship, and a shared love of beautiful interiors. It’s a story that reminds us the most meaningful designs are often shaped long before the first pattern is ever drawn.

Meredith House’s exclusive U.S. colourways will be available through Sister & Sewn beginning September 1, debuting at The Collective in New York’s Decoration & Design Building.

This is the first of many stories we’re honored to share.

When I see a yard of fabric, I see all the potential.

A lampshade. A pillow. The seat of a chair. A partial wallpaper roll lining the back of a cabinet. A small piece framed as art.

As California and the broader design industry rethink textile responsibility, interiors has an opportunity to lead with beauty, discernment, and intention.

Recirculation preserves more than the material itself. It preserves the artistry, craftsmanship, provenance, and human work behind it.

Jules Haines has shown through Haines Collection that surplus textiles can carry the same color, care, and desirability as something new.

Here in Texas, Katharine Hable brings her extraordinary design eye to Fabricland Folly — seeing the creative value still held in leftover material.

Their work reinforces the belief at the heart of the Sister & Sewn Trade Exchange: beautiful textiles should not lose their identity simply because they are remnants, samples, discontinued patterns, or imperfect prints.

Not a clearance room. Not anonymous leftovers.

The Founding Collection.

Some ideas take years to become real. Others live quietly within us until something gives us the courage to act.

What began as a conversation between two sisters has grown into something much bigger than us—a business built on relationships and a place to champion remarkable artists while bringing exceptional wallpapers and textiles to the American design community.

This September, we’re honored to open the doors to Sister & Sewn’s new home at The Collective in New York’s Decoration & Design Building.

The Founding Collection brings together six independent artists and textile houses from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Presented together for the first time, their work includes original wallpapers and textiles, new collections, and exclusive colorways available for the first time in the U.S.

Every pattern begins with a person, a process, and a distinct point of view.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce each collaborator, share the stories behind their studios, explore the inspiration behind their collections, and take you behind the scenes as we prepare for New York.

We’re honored to help share their work and welcome them into this new chapter of Sister & Sewn.

And to all of you who have encouraged us along the way—thank you for being here.

Introducing The Journal, Vol. 01.

One of the things we’ve learned over the past year is that beautiful design doesn’t begin with the first stitch—it begins with understanding the material in your hands.

A question we hear often is, “How much fabric do I actually need?” The answer is rarely as simple as a single number.

Fabric width, pattern repeat, directionality, scale, and finishing all influence the final yardage. A single yard can go remarkably far—or not nearly as far as you’d expect—depending on the cloth.

We’re starting The Journal to share the practical knowledge we gather in the studio along the way. Not trends. Not shortcuts. Just thoughtful information about textiles, craftsmanship, and the details that make a difference.

We hope these become pages you’ll save, revisit, and share with fellow designers and makers.
