Sometimes the most meaningful hospitality isn't a perfectly prepared meal or a beautifully styled centerpiece. 💙

It's looking someone in the eye, asking how they're really doing, listening without rushing, and making space for them to simply be.💙

A table has a way of slowing us down. It invites stories, laughter, tears, and honest conversation. It reminds us that being noticed and cared for is often the very thing our hearts need most.💙

This week, may we worry less about impressing and focus more on welcoming.💙

You never know who might leave your table feeling lighter, encouraged, or deeply loved simply because you made them feel seen.💙

We all need a little more ordinary in our lives. In hosting what you feel may be uninspired may speak to someone's imagination.

The candle you lit. The extra chair you pulled up. The way you made sure everyone's glass was full. The laughter that ran too late into the evening.

That's what they'll remember.

Not whether the napkins were folded right — but that you wanted them there.

One day, what feels ordinary to you will become someone's cherished memory.

So host the dinner. Invite the people. Light the candle on a Tuesday.

The magic isn't in the details. It's in the intention behind them. ✨

Someone told me women belong in the kitchen.

And for a long time, I let that bother me.

But after 40 years of hosting, I've realized something.

The kitchen isn't where we're stuck. It's where we create.

It's where my mother's coffee cake recipe lives on. Where cocktails get shaken at 5 o'clock. Where the best conversations happen while I'm chopping vegetables. Where guests always end up — no matter how beautiful the living room is.

The kitchen is where the magic happens.

And I'm done apologizing for loving every minute of it.

The one who sets a beautiful table on a Tuesday. Who invites people over even when the house isn't "ready." Who hosts with a cocktail in hand and zero stress in her shoulders.

She's not more talented. She's not richer. She just stopped waiting for perfect.

One of the challenges I hear from you is getting everything pulled together to set a beautiful table. Dishes in one cabinet, glassware in another, linens somewhere.

A few years ago I decided that in order for me to host with less stress and more joy I reimagined how I could have a space to safely store and easily access three generations of heirlooms. Now when I set the table I can "shop" my closet. I know where everything is.

Here is my dish pantry aka hosting closet. This is 40 years of keepsakes. Not everyone starts here, that's the beauty of growing into your life experience. Start with a few things stored in a cabinet and as you build your life around hospitality you'll have lovely things to host with confidence, not perfection.

When I make this "Porch Swing Banana Pudding" it takes me back to slow summers on the porch eating what tastes like heaven. Creamy pudding and the crunch of a slightly soft cookie topped with whipped cream.

This is a shortcut recipe but it's still delicious. 💛💛

But the homes we remember most rarely look like magazine spreads.

My childhood home was a place where coffee was ready to brew, laughter could be heard from our company downstairs, stories were shared around the table, and everyone felt welcome just as they were.

Your home doesn't need to look like a magazine. It needs to feel like a refuge.
