Every wise woman buildeth her house...” — Proverbs 14:1
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it truly means to "build." We often look at the tangible things—the scaling of a brand, the structure of a workday, or the daily checklist of a homeschool curriculum. But scripture reminds us that the most powerful tool a wise woman has for building her house isn't her hands—it’s her words.
Proverbs tells us that “a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”
There is an exquisite beauty and structural strength in words spoken with right timing and pure intention. But the opposite is also true. Our words have the power to tear down the very things we are trying so hard to cultivate.
As business owners, how do we speak to ourselves when a project feels heavy or a deadline presses in? As mothers, how do we talk to our kids during those long, beautiful, but sometimes exhausting homeschool days when patience runs thin? And as leaders, how do we speak life into our teams and our communities when our own energy reserves are low?
Every encouraging word, every patient correction, and every grace-filled internal reminder is a golden apple. It is an intentional brick laid in the foundation of our homes and our businesses.
This week, let’s choose to be builders. Let’s audit our words—both internal and external—and ensure that what leaves our lips is fitly spoken, full of wisdom, and designed to give life to the people and dreams right in front of us.
