Final 24 Hours: Help Plant the Seeds for Generations 🌱

We’re down to the final 24 hours of this campaign—and this is the moment that truly matters.

This isn’t just another project asking for support. It’s a ginormous opportunity to bring something meaningful into the world: a vision for edible landscaping rooted in permaculture principles, and a practical, inspiring book that helps people turn that vision into reality.

If we reach our goal, we help plant seeds—literally and figuratively—that can nourish families, communities, and ecosystems for generations to come. If we fall short, this resource—and the momentum behind it—may be lost.

We all get a lot of requests. It’s easy to scroll past.

But this one is different.

This campaign is about:

Reimagining our landscapes as living, productive ecosystems
Giving people the tools and knowledge to grow their own food sustainably
Restoring land in ways that are beautiful, resilient, and regenerative
Creating something that continues to give back year after year

Think of it as planting a seed today that will keep bearing fruit far into the future.

If you’ve been considering supporting, now is the time.

If you believe in this mission, please help us cross the finish line.

👉 Share with someone who cares about sustainability, food systems, or the future of our landscapes

👉 Help us turn this vision into something real

Let’s make this happen—together.

With gratitude,

Michael

P.S. The next 24 hours will decide everything. Your support right now can make the difference between this idea fading—or flourishing.

I’m inviting you to make edible Landscaping history together with a second edition of my classic Edible Landscaping book.

It’s time to get your Herb Spiral On!

Edible architecture at its best.

Free, short webinar to bring your herb spiral dreams to life. https://ecologiadesign.com/herb-spirals/

An herb spiral is a space-efficient and sustainable way to grow a variety of herbs in a small area. The unique spiral shape creates different microclimates—drier at the top for sun-loving herbs like rosemary and thyme, and more moist at the bottom for basil and parsley. The stacked stones retain heat, extending the growing season, while also providing habitat for beneficial insects that help balance landscape ecology. Herb spirals conserve water, reduce maintenance, and can be built anywhere, even on patios or poor soil, making them a practical and beautiful addition to any garden.

Why the Spiral?

The garden spiral is like a snail shell, with stone spiraling upward to create multiple micro-climates and a cornucopia of flavors on a small footprint. Spirals can come in any size to fit any space, from an urban courtyard to an entire yard. You don’t even need a patch of ground, as they can be built on top of patios, pavement, and rooftops. You can spiral over an old stump or on top of poor soil.

By building up vertically, you create more growing space, make watering easy, and lessen the need to bend over while harvesting. To boot, spirals add instant architecture and year-round beauty to your landscape: the perfect garden focal point.

One of the beauties of an herb spiral is that you are creating multiple microclimates in a small space. The combination of stones, shape, and vertical structure offers a variety of planting niches for a diversity of plants. The stones also serve as a thermal mass, minimizing temperature swings and extending the growing seasons. Whatever you grow in your spiral, it will pump out a great harvest for the small space it occupies.

Food forests are radically effective and can be created in as little as 8x8 foot patch. In Permaculture we call these groups of perennial companions “guilds.” Guilds are the essence of the food forest design and balance. The idea here is that you are designing and planting the fruit tree’s needs at the beginning. By combining four or more companion plants in the patch, the resulting benefits create higher plant production, reduced pests and disease problems, and increase soil fertility.I’ve been working on a new app called The Fruit Patch released on iPhone. It’s designed to select easy to grow fruits and companions by region using your zip code. So far it has 26 eastern states. I’d love feedback on it. Let me know if you do review it so I can send you my appreciation! The app is linked in bio. 🙏 Whether it’s with a new planting or a retrofit around an existing tree, the goal is a colorful assortment of different species that each play a role in the tree’s health. My staple four companions around a tree are: comfrey, yarrow, echinacea, and blue wild indigo—the mulch, the insectary, the pollinator, and the nitrogen fixer, respectively. I delegate these all-star plants to each corner of the patch. These are all-starred in both my books - Edible Landscaping With A Permaculture Twist & For The Love Of PawPaws. If you are seeking to grow up some food forests dig into my works and you’ll fine the tools.
