Did your outdoor plants survive the freeze? 🥶
If they're looking a little worse for wear, don't worry - some plants have the ability to come back from freeze damage.
First, check and see if the roots froze. 🤞
If they didn't, here's what you can do to try to bring your plant back to its former glory ... 🙏
• BE PATIENT!
Don't prune right away, even though it's tempting. Your plant needs time to readjust, and show you how much damage it's sustained. This could take days, or weeks.
You can remove mushy leaves and stems, but resist the urge to cut back. ✂️
• Water your plants!
After a freeze, plants can easily become dehydrated, since they move water away from themselves to protect from the cold. Give their soil a chance to dry out, let things warm up a bit, then give them a healthy drink. Be sure not to overwater! 💧
• For potted or indoor plants that were outdoors, bring them in to assist with their recovery. Make sure you don't immediately put them in a warm environment; they need time to adapt. Try putting them in a cool place, such as your garage, first. 🌡️
• Replenish nutrients in your plants. Add or replace the soil, feed them well with plant food or fertilizer, and keep them watered as necessary. 🌱
Another freeze coming?
• Cover your outdoor plants; there are a variety of ways to do it. Try a freeze cloth if you can get them. 🧣
• If you don't have it already, you can apply mulch around your beds for in-ground plants. It provides a nice, warm layer, and prepares them for the next freeze. 🎍
With a little bit of luck and some TLC, you can try to bring your plants and landscape back to health and beauty!
