🚨 LOCKSMITH SCAM WARNING FOR NORTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS 🚨

While this ABC11 Troubleshooter investigation originally aired back in 2019, the issues it exposed STILL exist today.

The investigation highlighted unlicensed locksmiths operating through online ads and call centers across North Carolina. In multiple undercover stings:

* Locksmiths admitted they were NOT licensed
* Some were uninsured
* Customers were quoted one price, then charged more on-site
* Investigators documented poor training and unsafe practices
* One individual allegedly fled when confronted by investigators

North Carolina law REQUIRES locksmiths to be licensed.

Unfortunately, many consumers still do not realize that when they search online for a “local locksmith,” they may actually be reaching a national call center that dispatches whoever is available.

Before hiring a locksmith:
✅ Ask for their NC locksmith license
✅ Get pricing in writing BEFORE work begins
✅ Be cautious of vague pricing or bait-and-switch tactics
✅ Verify you are calling a real local locksmith company
✅ Pay with a credit card whenever possible

A reminder to our neighbors: During Level 4 weather alerts, Fuquay Locks operates on an Emergency-Only basis. As a home-based business and safety volunteer, I prioritize keeping the roads clear for first responders and keeping my family safe. What a night in Fuquay-Varina!
Two amazing neighbors, including one of our awesome Fuquay Locks customers, called us to help a lady locked out of her home with a pizza burning in the oven. Though the pizza was a crispy casualty, we got her door unlocked fast and safe! Huge thanks to our community heroes for looking out for each other.
