Just saw this post and thought y’all would like to know:
“Resilience in a Jar
Last week, in the aftermath of devastating floods in the mountains of Tennessee, I was given a gift I’ll never forget—these jars of canned beans and apple butter. They weren’t just pulled from any shelf. These jars, coated in muck and debris, were salvaged from a home nearly swept away by the floodwaters, the remnants of a family’s garden.
The homeowner, standing amid the wreckage of their life, handed these to me with strong pride, a symbol of resilience and survival. It was impossible to refuse. These jars represent so much more than food—they’re a testament to the strength and heart of mountain people, who, despite the odds, continue to rise above. In times of loss and destruction, it’s the simple things that remind us of the unbreakable human spirit.
If these jars could talk, they’d tell a story of love, hardship, volunteers, and community. This is the strength of Tennessee, of Volunteers, and flood survivors.
