DeSoto Mechanical tip of the week: Change your dirty air filters.
What happens if my air filter is dirty? A dirty air filter restricts the flow of cold air and causes it to build up inside the air conditioner. This lowers the internal temperature and can cause uneven cooling and even freezing. Even if it does not cause freezing, it is not good for your air conditioner’s cooling power. Also, the additional strain on the air handler fan motor could, over time, burn out and cause overheating and ultimately failure of the system. Plus, it costs you more money for less cool air.

What happens if AC coils are dirty?
Your energy bills will be high.
Because dirty condenser coils make it difficult for your air conditioner to cool your home, your system will have to work much harder and longer to try and compensate. This leads to high cooling bills because your system will have to consume much more energy than usual.
