Candy Tuft has been in Betty's Garden for years, but I never tried to propagate it. Turns out that it roots readily, and will be available next week at the Farmers Market. If You'd rather you can come to 1987 Glenwood Hwy, you'll have a first pick. Pictured is the 'Mother Plant' from which I took the cuttings. ,

Spring fever is upon us! Both Betty and I foray out into the yard and the nursery searching for buds, looking for signs that Winter is over.
And we're finding some. I keep discovering new 'Betty's Garden' plants that will root, this year Candy Tuft will be available. Betty has had them around for years, she suggested that I try to root them, I did, they rooted, and they will be available here and at the Farmers Market when it opens.

Gardeners who want a burst of crimson color in fall should learn how to grow a burning bush (Euonymus alatus). The plant is from a large group of shrubs and small trees in the genus Euonymous. Native to Asia, this large bush has a natural open form that shows well in borders, beds and even containers. Almost any site and soil condition is sufficient when growing burning bush plants. Care of burning bush is minimal too, which makes the plant an excellent choice for even novice gardeners.

The foliage of peegee hydrangea is attractive, with dark green, oval leaves, each of which ends in a point and turns bronze in the autumn months. Peegee hydrangea also produces showy white blooms throughout its flowering season, which is one of the big draws in planting this particular selection of hydrangea. Big clusters of white flowers bloom out in a stunning spray, and then they fade to pink, bronze, and brown as they age.

Boxwood can be used in many different ways in your landscape. Individually they grow in a round shape, stay green all year, are relatively deer resistant (deer nibble on everything) or when planted close together can be used as a decorative hedge, trimmed to how you want it.

Several Years ago a friend gave me a tray of several hundred Serbian Spruce seedlings. I babied them planting them in 3" boxes, then gallon pots then planted them in my nursery. I've sold almost all of them (have a few left) now those re 5',6' ft. tall. They fit so well into landscapes, are somewhat smaller than native Fir trees and have that perfect Christmas Tree shape. I have a new supply 3, 4 years old (these will all be in pots) that I'll start selling this year. I'm starting these at $30. Cost will be more for larger trees.

Silver mound is a plant that we discovered a few years growing in a place where we were invited to divide it. We've grown to love it. Have tried with limited success to root it from cuttings, but when I found it advertised in a liner of 21 plants I ordered it. It will be transvered to 1 gal pots and a little higher priced than plants in Betty's Garden that I can root. At $10 for a 1 gal pot I'm convinced that they are still a bargain.
