You can be making better coffee at home without even messing with your morning routine! Here’s how:
1. Coffee to water ratio:
This just means, are you using enough coffee for the amount of water? Usually, we like to start at a 1:16 ratio, which is 1 gram of coffee to every 16 grams of water. To calculate that, all you have to do is take the amount of water you’re using, and divide it by 16. That’s how much coffee you should use. If you’re using a coffee pot and don’t know how much that is, you can either google it, or let it run without any coffee in the filter. That will dispense all of the water into the carafe and then you can weigh it.
2. Buying better coffee
Unfortunately, we can’t take a bad thing and make it better. You have to make sure you’re using better quality coffee if you want it to taste like it does when you go to a coffee shop.
3. Coffee Freshness
When you’re buying coffee, make sure you’re checking the roast date. Buying from a local roaster will always be best, as you know it’s most likely the freshest and was stored properly.
4. Grinding your coffee at home
The moment coffee is ground, it starts to stale and lose those amazing flavors you’re used to in a coffee shop. So, the longer it sits in the bag not getting used, the more and more stale it becomes.
