Happy Labor Day from Stillground Works. 🇺🇸

Today feels like a fitting day to appreciate the work that goes into the things we use, the places we build, and the lives we create.

Around here, “work” often looks like sawdust, laser smoke, stain-covered hands, late nights finishing an order, and the two of us looking at something and deciding it needs just one more little adjustment. ❤️

But Labor Day is also a good reminder that there should be time to step away from the work, too.

So that's exactly what we're doing.
We're trading the workshop for the road for a little while and heading off on an adventure together — cameras packed, of course. 📷🌲

Of course, adventures don't always look quite as pretty as the photos make them seem.

Today starts with about 11 hours of travel before we get to the good part. 😂✈️

But sometimes the long travel day, the tired eyes, and the “are we there yet?” moments are just part of the story.

For the next few days, we're putting down the tools, picking up the cameras, and taking a little time to explore.

We can't wait to see what inspires us along the way. ❤️

A little belated congratulations to Michele & Don. 🤍

Last month, they celebrated a pretty incredible milestone — 25 years of marriage.

We created this personalized cutting board to celebrate their anniversary, and we haven't shared the finished piece with everyone yet.

Twenty-five years.

That's a whole lot of life lived together — memories made, ordinary days shared, hard times gotten through, good times celebrated and, hopefully, plenty of laughter along the way.

One of my favorite things about making personalized pieces is knowing there's a story behind every name and date we engrave.

And 25 years of love & laughter is certainly a story worth celebrating. 🤎

From an idea to something completely their own.

This custom wind catcher started with a customer’s idea and a few sketches.

From there, Greg drew the 5-inch steel piece in AutoCAD, and we had it cut and powder-coated in black. Then I created two designs that were personal to the customer — a Wisconsin outdoor scene on one side and a little Wisconsin humor on the other.

Once everything came together, we engraved both designs directly into the powder-coated steel and added the finished piece to their wind chime.

We love projects like this — the ones that don’t come from a catalog or start with a ready-made blank. Just an idea, a little problem-solving, and the opportunity to create something made specifically for the person who asked for it.

We work with bamboo often for our personalized cutting boards, and this is one of those questions that comes up more than you might think.

A little peek at the Stillground workbench 🌿

There are a few custom pieces taking shape around here this weekend.

The cutting boards have been engraved, the board butter has been applied, and they're getting their finishing touches before heading off to their new homes. (Can't see the 4 personalized boards until next month- they are gifts.)

We're also getting ready to step away from the workshop for a little vacation. Our last laser production day before we leave will be September 5, and we'll be away September 7–19.

So, if you've been thinking about having something custom made, now is a good time to reach out. Orders can still be placed while we're away, but production will pick back up when we return.

For now, we're finishing what's on the workbench... and getting pretty excited about a little time away. 🌿
