It’s time for to sow cover crop seed for your spring gardens! North Toe Traditions will distribute clover and rye seed at CRI on Wednesday, 9/24 from 2:00 - 5:00. Cover crops add important nutrients to your soil and help soil from compacting during the winter months. Stop by and see us at the Community Rebuild Initiative, 8303 NC-197 in Poplar. Questions? One thing that can withstand a storm are Appalachian traditions! Join us for our upcoming events

Tomorrow, 9/11, there is a free soap making demonstration at the Buladean Community Center. 1:00-3:00. No registration needed. All supplies will be provided

Also, North Toe Traditions will distribute cover crop seed to help improve your soil for next year! Rye and crimson clover. Dates and times are coming soon!!! Distribution sites will be in Poplar, Green Mountain, and Fork Mountain

Finally, watch for information on apple butter making at the Buladean Community Center. 10/3 is the peeling and prep day. 10/4 is the cooking day. Story sharing is part of the apple butter experience! More information coming soon

This Thursday (9/11) at 1:00 is the soap making class. Wear long sleeves and pants. We will provide goggles, gloves, and aprons. Here’s a link that explains why making lye from wood ash was such a long process. Thank goodness we have food grade lye available that doesn’t require days to make! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!!

One week from today, we will be hosting our Fermentation Class. Thursday, August 28, from 1:00-3:00, at the Buladean Community Resource Center. In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of fermentation as a method of food preservation. We will provide the necessary materials, including cabbage, salt, jars, lids, and equipment. You will have the opportunity to prepare your own sauerkraut. To ensure an adequate supply of materials, please register in advance if you have not already done so.
