Gathering Rain - Why do it?
When I built my first rainwater catchment system I was amazed at how much water came off my roof in even a short rain storm. 2 barrels overflowed in no time, and when I needed the water for the food I was growing, it was clear those 2 barrels weren't going to be enough.
So, I researched how I might build a system that would better suit what the gardens needed, and in one weekend in March I built the first of what would be two 4-barrel systems that can each hold over 200 gallons of water.
And that was great.
But it isn't just the amount of water I can catch and hold and the utility of it that's been so rewarding. I've reconnected to nature's rhythms of sun and rain, and found joy and confidence in my ability to fulfill a most basic need through the work of my hands: the need for water. And I built the system to do that myself.
