A beautiful new construction home we finished in Oakdale.

Something a little different today - we’re rebuilding this shade structure / pergola for one of our customers in Pine Mountain Lake.

We used 6x10 and 4x8 redwood instead of doubling 2x8 and 2x10. It looks better and will last longer.

Big shout out to Gus, owner of for his generous gift of his time and expertise today. He showed me around the compound and a few of his jobs. Mcdermaid really does do as nice work as it looks in the pictures - they’re really setting the standard.

Hours of prep, minutes of paint

One of the many things that sets McCandless Painting apart is the massive amount of prep on the front end of our projects.

When painting homes with groove t1-11, we brush a generous coat into every single groove. The grooves are too tight for back-rolling to do the job, and if you spray only it leaves the rough inside from the router fully exposed - allowing water from heavy rain to pe*****te inside the siding, eventually leading to delamination.

This step on this large home took about 50 hours.

We are often the highest bid you’ll get but it’s not because we charge more per hour than any of our competitors - at most we’re 10-15% higher on labor which we’re proud to defend: our service and our people are well worth that premium.

When we’re double a bid from another licensed contractor, this is why. We are doing double the work (often even more).
