In a patch of Scotch Broom, English Ivy, and Italian Thistles, I spotted a California Pipevine (also called Dutchman’s Pipe) growing in the area I was weeding. To my wholehearted delight, there were Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly eggs on it!! 🌱

I made sure not to pull any of the Dutchman’s Pipe and was careful walking around so that I did not step on or squish the eggs while I was working. Client was very excited to hear that butterflies would be arriving soon! 🦋

The California Pipevine Swallowtail is a native butterfly species (endemic to Northern California) that relies on the Dutchman’s Pipe (Aristolochia Californica) to reproduce.

We call it “Billy Goat” weeding - I climb onto this rock wall and pull out the weeds growing between the rocks, leaving the ferns and other native plants. It’s a great workout! Grateful I get to spend time tidying gardens and hanging out with the birds and the bees. 🌻

One of the things I love most about working outside this time of year is getting to watch nature wake up from its winter slumber. All the critters coming out of hiding, the flowers budding and blooming, and the lush leaves on plants and trees. Springtime definitely has a magical feel in the air.

Here’s a compilation of a roof and yard job I recently did.

Client had two structures that needed to be blown off and some winter storm debris cleared from the yard. I used my electric blower to blow off the roof & deck and my battery chainsaw to chop up long branches to fit into the green bin.

Most of my power tools are battery-powered to minimize noise and air pollution on the job. These are just a few clips from throughout the work day.
