If you think your gutters have been neglected and not properly cleaned, this here is a good reminder to why we should check our gutters at least 2x a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
Foundation Protection: Properly working gutters channel rainwater away from the home, preventing it from pooling at the foundation, which can cause cracking, leaks, and severe water damage to the basement.
Prevention of Water Damage: Clogged gutters cause water to overflow and seep into the home, damaging roof decking, soffits, fascia, and interior drywall.
Increased Roof Lifespan: Standing water and debris buildup in gutters can lead to rotted wood and degraded shingles, causing them to fail prematurely.
Pest and Mold Control: Debris-filled gutters are ideal nesting places for rodents, birds, and insects like mosquitoes, while constant dampness promotes mold and mildew growth.
Prevention of Sagging/Broken Gutters: The added weight of leaves, debris, and trapped water can pull gutters away from the roofline, causing them to sag or detach entirely.
Preserved Landscaping: Overflowing, clogged gutters can pour water directly onto flowerbeds and shrubs, leading to soil erosion and damaged, washed-out landscaping.
Improved Safety: By keeping water from overflowing and freezing, gutter cleaning prevents the formation of ice dams in winter, which can tear gutters off the roof and cause dangerous ice buildup on walkways.
