Philadelphia, PA. 7-7-2012--- The National Trust for Historic Preservation has announced the sale of the architecturally-acclaimed Fisher-Kahn House in Hatboro, Montgomery County. The sale will take place from July 18, 2012 to August 21, 2012. All who are interested are invited to an Open House on
July 18, 2012 from 4-8PM. Registration is required to attend. Prospective buyers can also visit the property by appointment through the listing agents, Louise D’Alessandro or Janice Manzi of Elfant Wissahickon REALTORS; or through their own buyer agents. The Fisher-Kahn House, overlooking the Pennypack Creek at 197 East Mill Road, Hatboro, PA, was designed by renowned Philadelphia-based architect Louis Kahn, between 1960-64 and completed in 1967, for Norman and Doris Fisher. Offered for the first time since it was built, the property was gifted to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to ensure that this significant home would be preserved. The National Trust will place a preservation easement on the interior and exterior of the house, the storage shed, the bridge across the creek, and aspects of the landscape; and will administer its protection into the future. The goal of the National Trust, in the sale and the accompanying easement, is to allow continued private family-living for which the house was intended, while maintaining its architectural and historic value. “We have a responsibility to the Fishers and to future generations to preserve the historic character and public access of a house of this stature, one that retains a very high degree of architectural integrity”, said Shantia Anderheggen, Easement Administrator of the National Trust. Louis Kahn, (1901-1974) an internationally acclaimed architect, with a particularly close relationship to Philadelphia, designed significant public buildings, such as the National Assembly Building in Bangladesh, the Salk Institute, the Yale Museum for British Art, and the library at Phillips-Exeter. He also designed several single-family homes, all in the Philadelphia area. The Fisher-Kahn House is the third of Kahn’s designs to come onto the market in the past decade. The first was the Oser House, in Elkins Park, PA which sold in 2006, and the second, the Esherick House is currently for sale in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA. Sited on 2.69 acres, the 1,891 square foot house has four bedrooms and two-and-a half baths. Built on a foundation of local stone, and clad in tidewater cypress; when viewed from the street, the house appears to be two, juxtaposed wooden cubes, two stories tall. The bedrooms are located in one cube, and the living and kitchen space in the other. Considered a masterpiece of Kahn’s later, more mature work, the Fisher-Kahn House is a brilliant demonstration of Kahn’s architectural philosophy.
