Lumber is fascinating. Environmental factors like infections, stress, or damage can create rare and highly prized figures such as burl, curly, or birds eye grain.

Minerals in the soil or fungi in the wood can create a blue hue to the wood or even spalting (black lines).

Some woods even darken over time as they are exposed to light.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite grain character, but spalting and curl are right there at the top of my list.

We received an exciting shipment this week! Here's what we got:

Walnut oval 12"x20"
4/4 Brazilian Hickory 4-8"x7'
4/4 White Oak slab 11"x5-7'
4/4 Walnut slab 10"x8'
4/4 Cherry slab 10"x8-1/2'

*All sizing is approximate and varies by slab/board/oval.

Some of the slabs will eventually be cut into cutting/charcuterie board lengths.

While doing inventory last week I came across a few unique boards of 4/4 Poplar. Some boards had beautiful purple stains while at least one had blue stain.

Poplar is a good wood for painting, but these boards deserve just a clear too coat in my opinion.
