On December 13, 2025, members of a unit I served alongside—close friends and brothers-in-arms—were ambushed near Palmyra, Syria. Three were killed in action: Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, and Ayad Mansoor Sakat (“Eddie”), our interpreter. Three others were wounded.
This loss is deeply personal. It is a sobering reminder that there are still men and women serving in dangerous places, often far from home and far from public view, bearing a cost most never see.
I ask that you keep the wounded, those still serving with their unit, and the families of the fallen in your thoughts and prayers. Their sacrifice—along with the sacrifices of so many others—is what allows us to live our lives in freedom and safety.
