Entrance to T. B. Bond Emporium in 2020 reflects the historic period when gold foil lettering and cut glass signage was over the front door on Elm Street. The front door was discovered in an interior wall and was out fitted to serve as the main entrance. The historic, old scales are inside the front door where they have resided for over 100 years. Owner James Maass and Salt and Light Construction owner Scott Hunt were determined to keep the authenticity of the historic building and to respect the detailed work of craftsmen from an earlier period.

This is one of the most enjoyable and challenging projects to date. If you're ever in Hillsboro, Texas, make sure to drop by and take a look!

This building at 60 West Elm was a grocery store when the Bond family arrived in Hillsboro in 1881, so Dr. William Bond and son Thomas Burke Bond rented space at 64 and 62 West Elm prior to purchasing this corner site in 1893. The T. B. Bond name and 1881 date on the building were added in later years following a fire in the attic and upper levels. The name continues as T. B. Bond Emporium, a store designed to showcase local artisans' crafts, artwork and merchandise. It is also home to Overflow Coffee Co., Crain Law, and the 1881 Loft apartments in the upstairs that once were suites for doctors and dentists. Current owner of the building is James Maass who purchased the property and drug store from the Bond heirs in 1968. Dr. Joe Cunningham leased the building and continued utilizing it as a pharmacy for 30 years until he closed it in January 2018.
