Ever feel like you’re just one "I quit" text away from a total meltdown?

Most guys think the only way to grow is to hire more people. But more people usually means more babysitting, more drama, and more headaches.

What if your next "best hire" isn't a human at all?

Think about it. A skid steer or a mini-excavator doesn't call in sick, it doesn't complain about the heat, and it does the work of three guys without the attitude. Scaling your business isn't about having the biggest crew in town. It’s about having the most efficient machine.

When you invest in equipment and systems, you’re buying back your time. You’re trading drama for results. If you’re stuck in the cycle of hiring and firing, it’s time to look at your setup instead of your staff list.

Stop chasing workers and start building a business that actually works. Check out our website for the 5-Minute Revenue Fix tool to see how you can make more with less stress.

Ever feel like you’re just a mobile ATM for the gas station?

You drive the truck, you run the mowers, and suddenly that "profitable" job from two months ago is actually costing you money.

Waiting until the end of the season to adjust your prices is a death sentence. By then, your profit is already gone, and you’re just digging a hole for your business.

Fuel costs aren't a suggestion: they're a fixed expense. If your overhead goes up, your price has to follow. Immediately.

Don't be the guy who works for free because he was too scared to tell a client the truth about costs. Your business deserves to be profitable, even when the pump is trying to bleed you dry.

Check your numbers today. Not next month. Today.

Drop a comment if you've updated your fuel surcharge this week. Let's see who's staying ahead of the game.

Ever feel like your office whiteboard is actually a giant eraser for your profits?

If you're still running your crews off a dry-erase board or a stack of paper schedules, you’re likely leaking about 10% of your profit every single month. It sounds convenient until a crew forgets a service, a job isn't billed correctly, or you lose track of crew hours in the chaos.

Manual systems don't scale. They break the moment you get busy. Moving to a digital system isn't just about being "tech-savvy": it's about plugging the holes in your bucket. When every minute and every gallon of fuel is tracked digitally, that 10% goes back into your pocket, not into thin air.

Stop being the guy who spends Sunday night staring at a whiteboard trying to figure out the week's schedule. Get a system that works as hard as you do so you can actually enjoy your time off.

Check out the Million Dollar Landscaper podcast for the no-fluff guide on ditching the whiteboard trap and scaling your business the right way.

One of the biggest things I hear from landscapers and lawn care owners right now is that finding good help feels impossible.

I get it. I've talked about it on the podcast more times than I can count.

That's why I want to remind you about Contractor Staffing Source. They're a recruiting company that works exclusively with contractors — landscapers included — and they do the heavy lifting for you. Job ads, sourcing, screening, assessments, background checks, all of it. You just meet with them for 30 minutes a week and review who they found.

Flat monthly fee. No percentage of salary. No surprise charges.

I did a full episode with Paul Sanneman, their founder, and it's worth a listen if you're struggling to build your crew right now. Link is in the comments.

If you want to check them out, go to contractorstaffingsource.com and tell them Million Dollar Landscaper sent you.

Your phone should not be ringing all day with crew questions.

If it is, that's not a crew problem. That's a systems problem — and it's fixable.

In this week's podcast episode I walk through the Three Before Me rule. It's a simple rule I started using with my own crews that basically stopped the constant calls before they started.

I also cover how to write work orders that actually tell your crew what to do, and why sharing estimated hours on every job changes everything about how your crew shows up.

If you're constantly getting pulled off estimates or away from customers to answer questions from the field, this one's for you.

New episode of the Million Dollar Landscaper Podcast is out today.

This one is about getting your crews to run jobs without you having to be involved in every little thing.

I cover the 3 Before Me Rule — a simple way to get your team to solve their own problems before they pick up the phone and call you. I also walk through how to write work orders that actually work and why sharing estimated hours on every job changes how your crew approaches the day.

If you feel like you can't step away from the field without things falling apart, this episode is worth a listen.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝘆.

I see it every week with my coaching clients:

• 3 hours measuring a property
• 2 hours building the proposal
• Then… ghosted.

The problem isn’t your price. It’s that you never found out if they could actually afford you before you did all that work.

I just sat down with Neal Glatt — sales coach and landscaping industry vet — and he dropped something that’s going to save you a LOT of wasted time:

Stop asking “What’s your budget?”
Instead, use price ranges.

“Most projects like this run between $8K and $15K. Where does that land for you?”

That one question tells you everything you need to know — without making it awkward.

Ever get that sinking feeling in your gut during a site visit?

You know the one. The customer who starts by telling you how the last three landscapers "screwed them over." Or the one who wants a 5-star resort backyard on a beer budget.

In the middle of the spring rush, it's easy to think every lead is a good lead. But being "busy" is a trap if you're working for red-flag clients who kill your margins and drain your soul.

The most powerful tool in your business isn't your skid steer. It's the word "No."

Qualifying your leads early saves your crew's time and protects your profit. If they aren't a fit, let them go find the cheapest guy in town. You focus on the clients who value your work and pay your worth.

Stop being the "yes man" and start being the business owner.

Want to see how we filter out the nightmares? Check out the Million Dollar Landscaper podcast for our full lead-qualifying system.

you know that feeling when you're staring at a stack of resumes, praying for a 'unicorn' to show up? someone who already knows exactly how to pitch a patio or grade a yard without you holding their hand?

stop looking for unicorns. they aren't coming.

if your business only works when you find a superstar employee, you don't have a scalable company. you have a hobby that relies on luck.

the big guys don't grow because they find better people. they grow because they built a machine.

a real business has systems so simple a green rookie can follow them and get a pro result. when you build a system machine, you stop being held hostage by 'skilled' workers who know they’re hard to replace.

hire for attitude. let your systems do the heavy lifting.

it's the only way to stop working in the dirt and start running the show.

are you still hunting for unicorns, or are you building your machine?
