From a well respected meteorologist in West MI:
"We looked at the cold and snow that has built up early in Russia (also a sign that cold air will be pushing down into the Great Lakes from Canada starting later this month and lasting through much of the winter. October had the 4th highest snow cover/extent in Russia, throw in the change from a strong El Nino to a weak La Nina, the warm water over the oceans to the east and west of N. America (trough in the middle) and the warm water of Lake Michigan and you have to be thinking that this will not be a warm and snowfree winter. On the contrary, we should get significant cold outbreaks from the Northern Plains to New England and above average snowfall is more likely than below average snowfall (certainly more than last year).”
