Definitely not something you ever want to see. Our customer is out of town and she got a notification that the heat was not working, come to find out, there was almost 20" of water in the basement. Cause, outside spigot split and water ran back into the basement.
My Friday night was spent pumping water and emptying out the basement, thank you to Home Heating and Cooling for coming out after hours and checking the furnace, they were able to get it back running to prevent further issues with the rest of the house.
We started drying with commercial dehumidifiers this morning, hopefully all is well in a few days.
A few helpful tips:
- Shut off your outside spigots for the winter, if you do not have the ability, call a plumber and ask them to install shut offs, drain them after you shut them off
- If you need access to an outside spigot, get frost free spigots installed
- Remove any hoses that are attached
- Install a smart thermostat so you can receive notifications if your house falls below a certain temperature
- Shut water off when you are gone on vacation
