500 million tons of Nitrogen fertilizer produced from fossil fuels each year...40% of the worlds population gets it's food sourced from these synthetic fertilizers...phosphorus mining contributes to huge social justice issues... we flush these nutrients down the drain and further pollute our environment and oceans. 400,000 tons of phoshorus, 1.7 billion tons of N gets flushed in Australia alone each year. The system needs to change!
