Did you know your home's smoke detectors should be replaced EVERY 10 YEARS? And I don't mean just replacing the batteries. The industry safety standard is 10 years and this applies to both hard-wired and stand alone detectors. Some will chirp once they are no longer functioning safely. However I have seen many expired detectors that never make a sound and you'll just assume they are working fine. According to the experts, "The internal components, specifically the sensing chamber, become less sensitive over time. Also, dust, insects and humidity accumulate inside, interfering with functionality." So what should you do? Take one down and look for the manufacturing date. If it's before 2016, then it's in need of replacement. Keep your family safe and replace them. And as always, I am glad to help! Don't risk wiring in a new one or being on a ladder. I can pick up the replacements and come swap them out when you're ready. Just one of the many jobs I do for my Clients on an almost weekly basis.
