FROM START TO FINISH | Custom Bleached Red Oak

This one was all about the process.

We started with existing Red Oak floors that carried the natural red and pink undertones the species is known for. The goal was to create something lighter, softer and more neutral — while still allowing the natural character of the wood to remain.

So we took a different approach.

The floors were completely sanded → bleached to reduce the red and pink undertones → carefully prepped → stained with a custom blend of 2 Parts Country White + 1 Part Dark Walnut → and finished to bring the entire transformation together.

No shortcut. No one-size-fits-all stain color.

Just a process built around getting the right result for this home.

Custom Bleached Red Oak.

You saw the process. Now here’s the finished result.

This is the project where we took you behind the scenes of bleaching hardwood floors — and these photos show exactly why we went through that process.

The existing Red Oak floors and staircase were bleached to help soften the natural red and pink undertones of the wood before applying our custom stain blend.

From there, we created a custom color blend of stains.

The goal wasn’t to make Red Oak look like something it isn’t. It was to create a lighter, softer tone that worked naturally with the home while still allowing the character and grain of the Red Oak to show through.

And after all the bleach talk… here’s the payoff.

A completely custom finish, created specifically for this home.

A simple upgrade that completely changes the feel of the space.

We removed the existing carpet upstairs and replaced it with 3¼” Select Grade Solid Red Oak, nailed down over Aquabar and finished in DuraSeal® Medium Brown.

The goal wasn’t to overcomplicate it — just a clean, timeless hardwood addition built to feel like it belongs with the rest of the home.

Sometimes the best solution isn’t finding the closest match.

When this homeowner wanted to expand their bedroom, the original hardwood had been discontinued. Instead of forcing a mismatched repair, we designed an intentional transition.

By using a complementary border that tied into the existing floor, we were able to frame a lighter floor in the center—making the change feel like it was always part of the design.

A discontinued floor doesn’t have to limit your options.

This commercial staircase renovation began with custom solid white oak stair treads and risers, followed by water popping to maximize the natural grain before applying DuraSeal® True Black and three coats of premium water-based polyurethane in a satin sheen.
