Richard Popham Architects has made the change from AutoCAD to Revit.
Previously, Revit was utilized for 3D modeling and AutoCAD was employed for preliminary and construction drawings. Resistance to the change was like the move from the drawing board to CAD which included the time and resources for training as well as indifference of clients. Early adoption of CAD proved to be a wise decision.
Benefits of Revit BIM include:
• Revit uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction.
• Revit uses intelligent objects to build the model.
• Revit models are parametric in nature. This means that the changes made to the 3D model are automatically reflected in the 2D plans and vice versa. The parametric feature saves much time & effort as well as reducing the error index drastically.
• Revit automatically generates floor plans, interior & exterior elevations, schedules and 3D interior & exterior perspective views. Change made to any part of the model immediately translates to all other areas.
• There is zero repetition of work with Revit. All building data in one single model and can be easily accessed and utilized for different purposes.
• Construction time and errors occurring during construction are reduced.
• Revit enables operations and facility management to access an element's data with one click in the model.
• Revit in conjunction with Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its entire life cycle.
