I found this graphic somewhere and should serve as a reminder of where our water comers from but I have a few observations:
#1- Labeling the "lake" as Clean Water is a massively incorrect assumption to make.
#2- Note that Waste water is discharged upstream of clean water intake: Do you know if your water source does the same?
#3- Chemicals, insecticides, animal remains, etc. from roads and fields all drain to water source
#4- What really goes on at a water treatment plant before I drink it?

TWDB’s Water Weekly: After contracting last week, the latest drought map for conditions as of February 3 shows drought is increasing again. During the last nine weeks, drought has expanded eight times, growing from 45 percent in early December to now covering its largest extent of the state since March 2025. https://bit.ly/TexasWaterWeekly

Level 1 Water Emergency*
Pursuant to the 2025 approved Drought Contingency Plan, the City has adopted a new “Level 1 Water Emergency” previously known as “Stage 4”.
This Level 1 Emergency is initiated when the City reaches 180-days from when the total water supply is not enough to meet the total water demand.
This does not mean the City has run out of water as millions of gallons are still available from the Eastern Supplies (i.e., Lake Texana and the Colorado River).
However, this forces the use of one singular pipeline; the Mary Rhodes. 1 pipeline to supply the entire region.

I am relatively new here and have been motivated a lot by the South Texas Water Watch posts and info.
I wanted to share some of the research I have been doing recently and I hope you find it as interesting and scary as I do. I apologize for any errors in advance:
Lake CC and Choke Canyon Reservoir are going dry- we all know that- and End of Use or Dead Pool is estimated to be sometime this year!
8% of water for Corpus comes from Lake Corpus Christi
18% comes from the Nueces River which is really inflow released from Choke Canyon.
So Only 26% of our water is really coming from the Lake and Reservoir- BUT, we are most likely losing that entire supply THIS YEAR!
74% of our water supply comes from the Mary Rhodes Pipeline. This has 2 primary sources- Lake Texana and the Colorado River.
Lake Texana, near Edna, TX, is a big contributor to our water supply however, it's water level is in a fairly steep decline as well.
And unfortunately, the Colorado River is a dwindling resource as well.
Installing a water well is not an option for a lot of people.
And when we have to pump 100% of our water to us from other sources, taxes and water prices are no doubt going up as well. I think I saw $50,000,000 somewhere......

TWDB’s Water Weekly: The latest drought map for conditions as of January 20 shows an increase in drought area, the seventh consecutive week with an increase. Drought area has reached its largest extent since March 2025. Severe drought covers more than a third of the state, the most since April 2025. https://bit.ly/TexasWaterWeekly
