Here is a walk through of how to shut down and drain your system if you are concerned about freezing temperatures and potential loss of power.

01/21/2026

With freezing temperatures over the next few upcoming days here is some advise to prevent major damage to your pool equipment.

Running the pool system is always the best option.

Most systems with automation have a built in freeze protect that will keep the water flowing to prevent damage to the equipment. With spas the system will cycle between pool and spa to keep water moving, But check closely and make sure all water features are running also. ( i.e. Waterfalls or features that run on a separate pump)

If your system does not have a freeze protect turn your pool and any water features on and allow it to run. If you have a attached spa you can adjust the valves. Slightly crack the spa suction to allow flow but adjust the return valve to put more water flow to the spa with out shutting off pool return so spa does not drain and keep water movement through the pipes.

In the event we loose power or you want to be proactive if you believe you may loose power for decent period of time. If you don't wish to run your pool equipment during freezing temperatures.

(In February of 2021 in the middle of the night when we were in the low 20's. Damage to some equipment was done within a hour of power loss due to wind chill)

All equipment such as pumps, filters, and heaters have freeze plugs or drain plugs. You will need to remove these plugs, open or crack any check valves, move all valves to the open position, open the lids of pumps, and open air relief on filters to drain all equipment of any water. Also kill power to the equipment to prevent it from trying to come back on. These steps will help prevent any damage to major equipment and allow the water to run back to the pool / in ground. Now you could still get potential pipe damage but that is less likely and cheaper / easier repair than having to replace any major equipment.

One of our newer pools we have on service was unhappy with the condition of the suface of the pool that was just a few years old. Due to the improper water chemistry by the previous service company.

Customer had asked for a quote to replaster the pool. When assessing the plaster and getting measurements to provide a quote I noticed the finish was not in horrible shape aside from minor delamination and heavy metal staining from copper and iron. The finish had plenty of life left in it.

So instead of having the customer spend a bunch on having to resurface the pool. We opted to try a light acid wash to bring the plaster back to life as a much more reasonable and affordable option.

Here are the results.
If your pool is looking dingy and your not sure if you need to refinish or could use a stain treatment or light acid was like this one feel free to contact us. 281-852-7665 call or text.

Also goes for anything pool related. Need supplies, service, and maintenance.
