If you want to learn more about native plants, investigate state Native Plant Society's web pages. Some are better than others. Some are a treasure trove! The Arkansas Native Plant Society is an example of the latter. Of course not all plants native to Arkansas will be native to YOUR state, but if you find one that is, the level of detail provided is fantastic! Here's an example - our native honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens. I have only 3 of these in my plant sale, but one of them could be yours for just $10 (in a gallon sized container). If enough people are interested, I can get more. I can also get the 'Major Wheeler' cultivar, which has a longer bloom time.

All of this is part of your soil ecosystem! If you have landscape fabric in your yard to help control weeds, you've eliminated your land's capacity to perform its important ecosystem functions. If you don't want weeds, plant more plants! Nature will always try to fill in gaps in your garden and plants do a much better job than mulch in supporting all this life.

I was watering plants today when I saw a dragonfly hovering nearby. As I was watching it, it got tangled in an abandoned spider web. I lifted the sticky web up and the dragonfly was able to get free. I love it when I'm in the right place at the right time!
