💧 Why Should You Put a Trap on a Condensate Pump?

A condensate pump is designed to collect and remove water produced by your HVAC system—but the way that drain is connected matters.

When a condensate pump is connected to an HVAC drain system without the proper trap, the air pressure created by the air handler can interfere with condensate drainage. Depending on the system configuration, air can be pulled through or pushed through the drain line instead of allowing water to flow properly.

Installing a properly designed condensate trap can help:

✅ Promote proper condensate drainage
✅ Prevent air from being pulled through the drain
✅ Reduce the chance of water backing up or overflowing
✅ Help prevent gurgling and drainage issues
✅ Keep the condensate pump operating as intended

A condensate pump does not automatically replace the need for a properly configured drain trap. The drain system still needs to be designed for the pressure conditions of the HVAC equipment.

Got a call from a homeowner dealing with a possum setting up under her home 🏡🐾

She asked us to quote any potential damage and plan for rodent-proofing — but only after the possum has her babies and moves on naturally. That’s something we really respect.

Living in Florida means sharing space with native wildlife, and not every situation needs trapping. In this case, we’re letting nature take its course the right way.

A little about possums 👇
They typically give birth 1–2 times a year, with a short 12–14 day gestation period. Once born, the babies crawl into the mother’s pouch to continue developing. Around 2–4 months later, they leave the pouch and often ride on her back until they’re ready to move on.

They may not be everyone’s favorite visitor, but possums play a big role in the ecosystem. They’re known as nature’s cleanup crew — eating insects, rodents, and even thousands of ticks each season.

Once this momma moves on, we’ll come back, assess any damage, and properly seal everything up.
