💙Blue My Mind & Red Drift Roses

Why this combo is popular in Florida:
• Year-round color (especially in mild winters)
• Low water needs once established
• Clean, manicured curb-appeal look
• Great contrast against green turf and concrete edges

🦋Blue My Mind :
• Exceptional heat & humidity tolerance
• Bred specifically to outperform older blue haze varieties in warm, humid climates like Florida.
• Low-growing, clean groundcover habit
• Maintains a tidy, mounded shape without getting leggy—perfect for borders, curbs, and walkways.
• Blooms spring through fall (often year-round in Florida)
• Low water needs once established
• Ideal for water-conscious landscapes and commercial properties.
• Minimal maintenance- No constant pruning required; occasional shaping keeps it looking polished.
—————————
🌹Drift Roses (groundcover roses)
• Compact, spreading rose variety
• Continuous red blooms
• Very disease-resistant and low-maintenance
• Widely used in Florida commercial and residential landscapes

☀️ Tips to keep your Sabal Palms (a.k.a. Cabbage Palms) healthy, strong, and looking beautiful year-round 🌴

🌤️ 1. Sunlight & Location
•Full sun is best — Sabal Palms love at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
•They tolerate partial shade, but full exposure helps keep the crown full and green.
•Choose a well-draining spot; these palms hate “wet feet.” Standing water leads to root rot.

💧 2. Watering Routine
•Newly planted palms (first 6–8 months): water 2–3 times a week until roots establish.
•Established palms: water deeply once a week during dry seasons and reduce during rainy months.
•Avoid shallow, frequent watering — deep soaking encourages strong root growth.
💡 Tip: Drip irrigation or a slow soaker hose around the root zone works best.

🌾 3. Soil & Mulch
•Sabals thrive in sandy, well-aerated soil, common in Florida.
•Add a thin layer (2–3”) of organic mulch (pine bark or eucalyptus chips) around the base to retain moisture and regulate temperature.
Keep mulch 6–8 inches away from the trunk to prevent rot.

🌿 4. Fertilizing
•Use a palm-specific fertilizer (e.g., 8-2-12-4 Mg) every 3–4 months.
•Apply evenly from about 2 feet from the trunk to the edge of the canopy (the “drip line”).
•Avoid quick-release fertilizers — they wash away easily in Florida rains.
•A slow-release blend with magnesium, manganese, and potassium prevents yellowing and frizzled fronds.

⚠️ Do not over-fertilize — Sabals are slow feeders and excess nutrients can burn roots.

✂️ 5. Pruning Properly
•Only remove brown, dead fronds that hang below the horizontal line.
•Never “hurricane cut” — over-trimming weakens the palm and makes it vulnerable to disease.
Keep the natural round canopy shape.

🐛 6. Watch for Pests & Disease
•Ganoderma butt rot – deadly fungus that causes trunk decay; no cure, so prevention (good drainage & no trunk wounds) is key.
•Scale insects & palm weevils – look for sticky residue or holes near the crown; use horticultural oil or systemic insecticide if detected.
• Avoid wounding the trunk with trimmers or nails — Sabal Palms cannot heal trunk injuries.
