The Tiny House Project!

The Tiny House Project! Getting back to basics. Growing food, projects at home, canning, crafts, having fun, urban homesteading, a fun but simple life! Follow us!

We garden, repurpose items, build and do and create! We moved into this small square house in 2012 as a way to cut back and save money after realizing we were slaves to the grind. But it has become much more than that. Sammi practices her Appalachian skills learned as a kid. Sheila takes care of the land and has become quite good at wood craft. Now we have learned homesteading skills, canning, org

anic gardening, and crafts! There is always something going on at The Tiny House! Our lives have changed but we still live on the property. We have an acre of Florida scrub surrounded by an old fruit grove and hundred year old giant citrus, pear, fig and old huge oak trees. But we are surrounded on the outskirts by one of the most urban areas.

Homestead Peck: Not

You know you never hear the word peck any more... as in peck of this or peck of that or as the old saving goes of Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

No, this was not peck of peppers I picked this morning but more like a 1/2 basket full, at best maybe a couple of quarts.

But for all you inquiry minds: A peck is customary unit of dry volume, equivalent to 2 dry gallons or 8 dry quarts or 16 dry pints.

Two years ago we talked about saving eggshells and making salve. I don’t know about you but I think we may want to keep learning the old ways. The world is kinda sketchy lately.

From todays reading…..

"If your knees aren't green by the end of the day, you ought to seriously re-examine your life." –Bill Watterson

According to the Farmer's Almanac, this week will be a good time to: hatch eggs, dry fruits and vegetables, quit smoking, potty train, wean, perform demolition, wash windows and wooden floors, kill plant pests, pick apples and pears, castrate farm animals, or slaughter. Have other plans? You might want to check the Farmer's Almanac Calendar first.

Did you know...?
Potato chips cause more weight gain than any other food
