Giant Swallowtail butterfly enjoying native Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea). This is one of the easiest native perennials to grow from seed. It survives Zone 9 winters easily and reseeds itself EVERYWHERE.

First sighting of a Giant Swallowtail butterfly this year. I didn’t know it was the largest butterfly in North America, but not surprised because this butterfly was huge. If you see what looks like bird p**p on your citrus trees, those are the caterpillars. Don’t smush them and you’ll get more gorgeous butterflies! Check the first comment for a lot more information.
