Our social media may be quiet but it’s because our hands have been full! Our most recent completed project is a laundry room refresh. Charles built a custom butcher block countertop and added a new tile backsplash. What a lovely place to fold clean clothes!

How Often Should Stone Countertops Be Resealed (and Why)?

If you have stone countertops, keeping them properly sealed is essential to maintaining their beauty and durability. Here’s everything you need to know about resealing them:

How Often Should You Reseal Stone Countertops?
🔸 Granite: Every 1–3 years, depending on the type of granite and how heavily it’s used.
🔸 Marble: Every 6–12 months, as it’s more porous and prone to staining.
🔸 Quartzite: Every 1–2 years, as it’s harder than marble but still porous.
🔸 Quartz: Doesn’t need sealing since it’s non-porous and manufactured with a resin that acts as a sealant.

Why Do Stone Countertops Need Resealing?

Stain Prevention: Sealant fills the natural pores in the stone, preventing liquids like wine, oil, or coffee from seeping in and causing permanent stains.
Preserve Shine: Resealing protects the surface from scratches and dulling, keeping your countertops looking new.
Extend Lifespan: Proper sealing minimizes wear and tear, ensuring your countertops last for decades.

The Resealing Process
🔧 Step 1: Test the Seal

Drip a few drops of water onto your countertop. If it beads up, the seal is intact. If it soaks in, it’s time to reseal.

🔧 Step 2: Clean the Surface

Use a non-abrasive cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and residue. Allow the countertop to dry completely.

🔧 Step 3: Apply the Sealer

Using a clean cloth or applicator pad, apply a stone-specific sealant evenly across the surface.
🔧 Step 4: Let It Soak

Allow the sealer to pe*****te the stone for the time recommended on the product label (usually 15–30 minutes).

🔧 Step 5: Wipe Away Excess

Use a clean, dry cloth to remove any excess sealer before it dries on the surface.
🔧 Step 6: Cure Time

Avoid using the countertop for 24–48 hours to let the sealant cure fully.

If resealing feels overwhelming or you want to ensure it’s done perfectly, Home Craft Services is here to help. We’ll make your countertops shine and protect your investment for years to come!

Did you know honeycomb blinds can save you up to 30% on your energy bills?

Let's take a look at the pros and cons of honeycomb blinds to help you decide if they are the right fit for your home.

Pros of Honeycomb Blinds
🔹 Energy Efficiency

Their unique honeycomb structure traps air, providing excellent insulation. This helps keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer, reducing energy bills.
🔹 Light Control Options

Available in various opacity levels, from light-filtering to blackout, so you can customize the light and privacy in each room.
🔹 Sound Absorption

The cellular design can help reduce outside noise, making your home quieter and more comfortable.
🔹 Aesthetic Appeal

Sleek and modern, honeycomb blinds fit well with many décor styles and come in various colors to match your space.
🔹 Child and Pet Safety

Cordless options make them a safer choice for homes with children or pets.
🔹 Durability

Made from strong, pleated fabric that resists sagging, ensuring they look good for years.
Cons of Honeycomb Blinds
🔸 Limited Design Variety

While they’re sleek, they lack the decorative appeal of some other window treatments, like curtains or wooden blinds.
🔸 Difficult to Clean

The cellular structure can trap dust, and they may require professional cleaning to maintain their appearance.
🔸 Higher Cost

Honeycomb blinds are more expensive than some other options like roller blinds or basic shades, especially for custom sizes or blackout versions.
🔸 Light Gaps

When installed inside the window frame, gaps around the edges can let in light unless paired with additional treatments.
🔸 Fragility

While durable for regular use, the fabric can be prone to tearing if mishandled.
Verdict: Honeycomb blinds are a great choice if you’re looking for energy efficiency, light control, and a modern aesthetic. However, they may not be the best option if you’re on a tight budget or need a low-maintenance solution.

Got a chair that’s wobbly and driving you crazy? Here’s an easy fix you can do in just a few minutes!

What You’ll Need:

A pack of adhesive felt pads (or a small piece of cardboard)
Scissors (optional)

Steps:

Check the Legs: Flip the chair over and inspect the legs. The wobble is usually caused by one leg being slightly shorter than the others.

Apply a Pad: Stick an adhesive felt pad to the bottom of the shorter leg. If you don’t have pads, trim a small piece of cardboard to size and attach it with strong tape or glue.

Test It Out: Set the chair back upright and test for stability. Adjust as needed.

✨ Pro Tip: For a more permanent fix, consider tightening or replacing any loose screws in the legs while you’re at it.

Common Mistakes DIYers Make (and How to Avoid Them!)

Thinking of tackling a home repair yourself? DIY projects can be rewarding, but some common mistakes could turn a simple job into a costly headache. Here are the top pitfalls we’ve seen—and how to avoid them:

🔧 1. Skipping Prep Work
DIYers often dive straight into the project without proper prep. For example, painting without cleaning or priming surfaces can lead to peeling paint later.
✨ Pro Tip: Take time to prep! A little extra effort upfront saves time and money in the long run.

🔧 2. Using the Wrong Tools
Not all tools are created equal, and using the wrong one can damage materials or make your job harder.
✨ Pro Tip: If you don’t have the right tool, consider renting it—or call us for expert help!

🔧 3. Underestimating the Project
That “quick fix” often takes more time and skill than expected. Improper repairs can lead to bigger issues down the road.
✨ Pro Tip: Research thoroughly and know when to call in the pros.

🔧 4. Ignoring Safety
From failing to turn off power when working with electricity to not using protective gear, safety is often overlooked.
✨ Pro Tip: Safety first! Always follow guidelines and use proper equipment.

💡 Avoid These Mistakes Entirely!
DIY is great, but if a project feels overwhelming or requires specialized skills, that’s where Home Craft Services comes in. We’re here to help with the small jobs that make a big difference in your home.
