PSA: If you want to avoid water lines from freezing, please do your part in trying to prevent it from happening. AT BARE MINIMUM cover up your faucets BEFORE the temperature drops below freezing. Anything UNDER 28 degrees for 4 hours calls for a steady flow of water from both the HOT & COLD lines. Open the vanity cabinet doors to allow heat in BEFORE the water lines freeze. In the temperatures we are facing once they freeze they will not unfreeze before temperatures get back above freezing again.

Also, heat pumps struggle to keep up with the extraction of heat from the air when temperatures plummet below 25 degrees (this is why northerners use boilers). If you don’t switch it over to emergency heat (AUX HEAT) you will
more than likely cause fan motor issues, compressor failures, wobbling an vibration in the fan motor (the abnormal noises you hear),
Or even broken or bent fan blades. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE HEAT DOESN’T MEAN YOU ARE AREN’T DAMAGING YOUR SYSTEM!

Lastly, don’t blame your HVAC , plumber, or even your GC when you don’t follow recommendations. Stay warm. Stay safe.
