The Deadly Nightshade Urban Farm

The Deadly Nightshade Urban Farm Gardening, DIY, self-sufficiency, local food, classes and more! I was befuddled. "What's wrong, honey?

The Deadly Nightshade has recently moved from a 1/3 acre lot in the suburbs to five city lots in the historic Northeast neighborhood of Kansas City. Despite our fear-inspiring name, this garden is almost exclusively devoted to the production of edible fruits, vegetables, herbs and yes, even edible flowers. The name The Deadly Nightshade came about after my husband first moved here and wanted to gr

ow more tomatoes - but didn't want to eat them. Tomatoes are a member of the solanacae family, of which deadly nightshade and potatoes are also members and I began to wonder if he thought tomatoes were poisonous. Are you afraid of the deadly nightshade?" The name just...stuck. I subscribe to the ethic that if you aren't a cow, you probably shouldn't have grass and together with my husband and our young daughter, we are working on eradicating as much grass as possible in the hopes of turning our urban homestead into an edible paradise.
