Deck Rescue: Steel Posts, Glulam Beams & a Full Beam Splice

When a deck beam needs replacing on a steep slope, you can't just tear it out — you need a plan. In this video, we walk through the full beam swap process: temporarily supporting the structure, cutting out the old beam, and installing custom glulam beams matched to the existing ones on the house.

We also cover splicing at the steel posts, cutting bracket tops, bringing in welders for new brackets, and dropping new posts at the splice points — all while working off a safe platform with fall harnesses tied back to the house.

Deck transformation complete! 🛠️
This backyard went from a tired, weathered wood deck and crumbling stairs to a fresh, low-maintenance space built to last.

Here's what went into it:
🪵 New composite decking, fascia, and stair treads in Coconut Husk, with mitered corners and hidden Camo Clip fasteners for a clean, screw-free surface
🖤 Black aluminum railing with picket infill, 200-series top rail, and matching 600-series stair rail — 36" tall for safety and style
🪑 Built-in bench seating
🔧 Full demo of the old structure, new footings tied into the existing layout, and careful framing around the ledger to keep everything tight to the house

This Lake Tapps deck project started with a homeowner who wanted to make sure the next phase of work on their home was done right.

After working with another contractor on previous portions of the house, they weren’t completely satisfied with the experience or quality of the work. This Deck Was About to Collapse — Here's Our Fix
